Fishing Report

This Fishing Report covers Trinity River, Trinity Lake and Lewiston Lake

Trinity County is home to some of the best fishing locations in the U.S. With so many great fishing locations, it's easy to see why Trinity County is a world class fisherman's paradise!

This Fishing Report is provided by Vince Holson of Fish Central Guide Service and it is updated every month. You will gain useful knowledge from this fishing report; like where the fish are biting, what the best bait is to use for different types of fish, current river flow conditions (c.f.s.), and other items that will make your fishing expedition in Trinity County a trophy one!

ATTENTION: We are currently changing writers for the fishing report, the new report will be posted soon!

Trinity River Fishing

Fishing on the river is essentially over because of the high flows from the bureau of reclamation and the river restoration projects. The flows will be up to 6000 c.f.s. by this weekend and then slowly decrease to 450 c.f.s. by July 26th. In June fishing will begin to take shape in the lower river and fishing will start in the upper river by July 4th.

Trinity Lake Fishing

Trout are still being caught at the confluences of the incoming streams using spinners or spoons copper is your best color for some reason right now after the sun is on the water and silver very early in the morning right at daybreak. Trollers plying the water with Vampire Rapalas or Brads wee wigglers in the copper with red eyes are catching limits of 14 to 16 inch trout. Trolling with down riggers at a depth of 40 feet are catching Salmon in the 4 to 5 pound range and an occasional 3 pound trout.

Bass fishing is doing well off all the points in about 15 to 20 feet of water using Pro-Worms in a blue/black pattern and deep diving plugs in the shad patterns. What also works well is the soft plastic in the Rainbow Trout patterns; these are 7 inch long and work really well when retrieved slowly along the submerged points of the lake.

Lewiston Lake Fishing

With the increased water flows being put through the lake into the river trout are being caught two ways right now. Back trolling plugs in the moving water and sliding side to side across the current 14 inch trout can be caught using Rapalas F7 is the best size and the Vampire colors is your best bet. Also drifting with the current using Night crawlers or a Salmon egg with a white power egg will also catch 14 inch fish one thing don’t put any weight on it will get caught up in the moss on the bottom. Bank fishing is not doing that great with bait right now but using a ¼ ounce Krocodile can catch fish cast it up in the current and retrieve it slowly across the current with a slow retrieve will catch limits of trout.

Other Fishing News

With the increased water flows you have to change tactics for the time being but fishing like anything else is best done with an open mind and a little bit of patience.

Until then may the Fish Gods look kindly upon you, be safe.
